What are social media best practices for Salons?

Social media is a powerful tool for promoting your business in general and driving sales to your Online Store. Use your influence on these platforms to bring awareness of your business, help keep your clients informed and engaged, and encourage more bookings and rings at your salon’s retail register.

Use your various social media channels to help get the word out about your salon’s Online Store. First, make sure you have a few things set up:

1. Add your Online Store link to your salon’s Instagram account in the bio section. https://help.instagram.com/362497417173378. You can also use Linktree as a way to showcase multiple links.

2. Optimize your reach on Pinterest
In addition to adding a link to your Online Store on your bio, think through how to organize your product recommendations and tutorials on Pinterest by creating a specific board or series of boards. Name them something appropriate like My Favorite Products, Curly Hair Tips, Expert Advice for Your Hair (skin, nails, etc.), Hairstyle Ideas for Professional Women, Styling Tips & Tricks, etc.

Take Your Social Media to the Next Level

Once you have the basics set up, check out these suggestions from our social media expert:

Facebook

  • Make a post on Facebook announcing your Online Store with the link, and pin📍 that post to the top of your Facebook feed.
  • Have a selfie spot - whether it’s an angle from your chair where the light comes in through the window or a specific selfie wall. Find spots in or around your salon with the best lighting, making for clean, interesting content.
  • Taking before and after photos and videos is fun, but sometimes your clients aren’t prepared for a pic at the moment. Ask them to tag you if they post any pics of their new look on social media. Help them find, like, and follow your social pages while they are still with you in the salon.
  • Utilize local Facebook groups. Share your posts on those pages to gain more exposure for your events.
  • If you have an event or special promotion, create a Facebook Event for it. This will make notifications for your clients so they won’t miss out.

Instagram

  • Share content and tag your favorite artists and creators in posts.
  • Use local hashtags like #LAcolorist #NYCbalayageexpert #nashvilleweddinghair
  • Try the LATER Appto schedule and view your posts ahead of time, and have them scheduled to post automatically.
  • Be sure to tag your clients in posts in the hopes that they will share with their followers too.
  • Create casual impromptu content in your stories.

TikTok

  • Use top trending sounds when featuring your artistry.
  • Create sounds of your own. You don’t need a singing voice either. Be creative; all sorts of different sounds have gone viral on TikTok.
  • Try using products for transitioning from clip to clip. Use products, tools, or anything when going in and out of clips.
  • Participate in TikTok challenges! Recreate them in your own way. If you don’t want to dance, don’t! Instead, maybe make your scissors dance.
  • End your TikTok with an image and a super quick blurb about your Online Store.
  • Use hashtags specific to your area to reach local clientele. #bestsaloninPortland #ChicagoHairstylist #Miamiweddinghair

Pinterest

  • This is a great social app for improving your Google search engine results. Also, every post is essentially a virtual billboard for your business. Try to post often, and be sure to include hashtags and the link to your salon’s website and/or Online Store for every post.
